The Value of a Routine Vehicle Inspection

Back to Blog

Jeff and Elisa brought their 2017 Ford F-150, at 93,000 miles, to Sherwood Auto Repair for a routine 5,000-mile service and asked for a tire check. The digital inspection found healthy brakes, good remaining tread, and no mechanical concerns, so the truck left with its maintenance done and its condition fully documented.

When Jeff and Elisa brought their 2017 Ford F-150 XLT to Sherwood Auto Repair in Tualatin for its regular 5,000-mile interval service, they had one specific request beyond the scheduled maintenance: check the condition of the tires.

Their truck had just over 93,000 miles on the odometer, and the visit was an opportunity to evaluate its overall condition while completing the oil service and tire rotation.

Brandon began with a comprehensive digital vehicle inspection, reviewing the truck's major systems and documenting his findings. The inspection included a road test, evaluation of the steering and suspension, fluid levels and condition, braking system, tires, exterior lighting, and other important components.

The results were encouraging.

The front and rear brakes were in good condition, each measuring 6 mm of remaining brake pad material. The front tires measured 6/32" of tread depth, while the rear tires measured 7/32". Brandon rotated the tires from front to rear and adjusted all four tire pressures to 35 PSI.

The road test revealed no concerns with engine or transmission performance, steering, braking, or heating and air conditioning operation. The inspection also found the suspension components, fluid systems, and other major systems to be in good condition.

One minor finding was a small chip on the driver's side of the windshield, which Brandon documented during the inspection.

With the inspection complete, Brandon performed the scheduled oil and filter service, verified the engine oil level, and checked for leaks.

No additional mechanical repairs were identified as necessary during this visit. That isn't always how a routine visit goes. On another 5,000-mile service we wrote about, the inspection turned up oil on a spark plug that was easy to fix because it was caught early.

Jeff and Elisa's F-150 left Sherwood Auto Repair with its scheduled maintenance completed, tire condition documented, and a detailed inspection confirming the condition of the systems evaluated.
