Why Regular Brake Inspections Could Save Your Life

Back to Blog

Brakes are your car's most critical safety system. Learn what our technicians look for during a brake inspection and how catching small issues early keeps you safe on the road.

Your brakes are the single most important safety system on your vehicle. Yet brake inspections are one of the most commonly skipped maintenance items — and that's a problem we see every day at Sherwood Auto Repair.

What Happens During a Brake Inspection?

When one of our technicians inspects your brakes, they're looking at several key components:

  • Brake pad thicknessPads worn below 3mm are a safety concern and should be replaced promptly.
  • Rotor conditionRotors can develop grooves, hot spots, or warping over time, reducing stopping power.
  • Caliper functionA sticking caliper can cause uneven wear and even brake drag.
  • Brake fluidOld or contaminated fluid absorbs moisture, lowering its boiling point and reducing effectiveness.

  • How Often Should You Have Your Brakes Inspected?

We recommend a brake inspection at every oil change or at minimum once a year. If you hear squealing, grinding, or your car pulls to one side when braking, come in immediately — don't wait.

    The Cost of Waiting

A basic brake pad replacement is far less expensive than replacing rotors that have been damaged by worn-out pads. Catching the issue early almost always saves you money — and it keeps you and your family safe.

At Sherwood Auto Repair, every vehicle that comes through our doors gets a complimentary visual brake inspection. We'll give you an honest assessment and never recommend repairs you don't need.
