Road Trip Checklist

Back to Blog

Everything you need to check before hitting the road for a safe and enjoyable trip.

Planning a road trip? Use this checklist to make sure your vehicle is ready for the journey:

Under the Hood

Check these fluids and components:

  • Oil level — Top off if needed, or schedule a change if you're due.
  • Coolant level — Essential for preventing overheating on long drives.
  • Brake fluid — Low levels could indicate a leak or worn pads.
  • Windshield washer fluid — You'll use more than you think on a long trip.

Safety Items

Inspect these critical components:

  • All lights — Headlights, brake lights, turn signals, and hazards.
  • Wiper blades — Replace if streaking or skipping.
  • Tire pressure — Check when cold, including the spare.
  • Spare tire — Make sure it's inflated and you have the tools to change it.

Emergency Kit

Pack these essentials:

  • Jumper cables — Dead batteries happen.
  • First aid kit — Basic supplies for minor injuries.
  • Flashlight — With fresh batteries.
  • Water and snacks — In case you're stranded.
  • Phone charger — A portable battery pack is even better.
  • Basic tools — Screwdrivers, pliers, and duct tape can solve many problems.

Before any major trip, bring your vehicle to Sherwood Auto Repair for a pre-trip inspection. We'll make sure everything is ready for a safe journey!
